Spotlight: Silver
2026-10-08
Silver is cratering, and the speed of the unwind has caught even seasoned metals traders off guard. The commodity shed just over 4% in Wednesday’s session alone, printing 59.067 on broker feeds and extending its weekly loss to 3.12%. What makes the move so striking is where it came from: barely two weeks ago, silver was flirting with highs near $68, buoyed by one of the most crowded long positioning setups in the metals complex. That crowding is now being punished, with leveraged longs forced out in waves as the price knifed through one support shelf after another.
The technical damage is severe. Silver now trades well below both its 50-day exponential moving average at 63.52 and its 200-day EMA at 65.20, a configuration that confirms the trend has flipped from euphoric to defensive. The 14-day RSI has collapsed to 26, deep into oversold territory — a reading that often precedes short-term bounces but, in momentum-driven liquidations, can stay pinned for days before stabilizing. All eyes are now on the $58.50 low, the floor of the recent range and the last meaningful support before the chart opens up toward materially lower levels.
For the days ahead, the setup is binary. A hold above $58.50 combined with the washed-out RSI could invite bargain hunters and spark a reflexive bounce toward the 61–62 zone. A decisive break below it, however, would signal the deleveraging has further to run, with little technical resistance until the mid-50s. Until silver reclaims the 50-day EMA, rallies should be treated as counter-trend — tradeable, but not trustworthy.
