Spotlight: Silver

2026-08-10

Silver is staging one of its most explosive moves in months, surging 3.04% on the session to $65.26 and capping a remarkable weekly gain of 13.19%. The rally carried the metal to fresh 20-day highs just shy of $65.51, and the conviction behind the move is difficult to ignore: trading volume ballooned to nearly 30 times its normal level, a signature typically associated with institutional accumulation rather than retail froth. The breakout unfolds in tandem with gold’s own advance, underscoring a broader momentum surge across the precious metals complex as investors position for a weaker dollar and renewed safe-haven demand.

Technically, silver has decisively reclaimed its 50-day exponential moving average at $62.98, which now flips into near-term support. The larger hurdle sits overhead: the 200-day EMA at $69.16 marks the boundary between a powerful countertrend rally and a genuine trend reversal, and bulls will need sustained buying pressure to challenge it. The RSI(14) at 68.5 is approaching overbought territory but has not yet breached the 70 threshold, suggesting the move retains some headroom before exhaustion signals emerge, though a consolidation phase would hardly be surprising after a double-digit weekly run.

For the days ahead, the path of least resistance appears higher as long as $62.98 holds on any pullback. A clean break above $65.51 would open the door toward the $67–69 zone and a test of the 200-day EMA. Traders should watch volume closely: if participation remains elevated, this breakout has the ingredients to extend, while a fade in turnover would argue for locking in gains near resistance.
