Spotlight: Silver
2026-08-08
Silver surged 3.08% on Friday to $63.33, the sharpest single-session advance across the commodities complex this week and a move that caps an impressive 9.97% gain over the past five trading days. The white metal is now pressing against the upper end of its recent 20-day range, sitting at roughly the 83rd percentile of that band and just below the psychologically significant $65 high that has capped rallies since early summer.
The technical picture reflects the shift in momentum. Silver has reclaimed its 50-day exponential moving average at $62.89, which now acts as immediate support, while the 14-day RSI at 68.7 hovers just beneath the overbought threshold of 70—a reading that confirms strong buying pressure without yet signaling exhaustion. The one caveat for longer-term bulls remains the 200-day EMA at $69.27, which sits well above current levels and underscores that this rally is still operating within a broader corrective structure. A sustained break above $65 would open the path toward that longer-term average and mark a genuine trend change.
The move does not come in isolation. Gold’s parallel surge points to a broad precious metals rally, likely fueled by renewed safe-haven demand and softening real yields, giving silver’s breakout attempt fundamental tailwinds beyond pure technicals.
For the coming days, the setup favors continuation as long as $62.89 holds on any pullback. A decisive close above $65 would likely trigger momentum buying toward $67–69, while a stretched RSI suggests traders should brace for brief consolidation before the next leg. The bias remains constructively bullish.
